The Falesti raion organization of the Social Democratic Party of Moldova (SDPM) has announced it is joining the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM) headed by Prime Minister Vladimir Filat.
Nina Botezatu, Chairwoman of the Falesti Raion [on northern Moldova], stated at a news conference in Infotag today that the decision to quit the Social Democratic Party was taken in the raion party organization yet last March 10 “because the SDPM leadership appears to be incapable of reaching set goals”.
She explained that at the April 5, 2009 parliamentary elections, the party’s Falesti territorial organization won 8% in the raion [while the SDPM as a whole in the country – 3.7%]. Despite this obvious success, the raion subdivision’s achievements were left without attention by the party leadership in Chisinau, and Falesti ideas and initiatives were ignored.
Botezatu said, “Our decision to join the Liberal Democratic Party cannot be called spontaneous. It was taken after a thorough analysis of the political situation in the republic. We have decided to join a strong party that works in earnest to improve citizens’ lives and has set itself a concrete objective – European integration”.
